1. Purpose

The Sustainability Leadership League (SLL) is an initiative developed by the London Centre for Risk & Sustainability (LCRS) to support organisations in assessing and strengthening their sustainability leadership capability.

SLL is designed to provide structured insight into organisational maturity, rather than to rank or compare organisations competitively.

2. Independence

LCRS is committed to maintaining the independence and integrity of the SLL framework and its outputs.

  1. SLL assessments are conducted using a consistent methodology and defined criteria
  2. Outcomes are not influenced by commercial relationships or external interests
  3. Participation in SLL does not guarantee any specific outcome, recognition, or classification

LCRS operates as an independent platform and does not provide certification, accreditation, or regulatory approval through SLL.

3. Nature of Assesment

SLL assessments are based on:

  1. Information provided by participating organisations
  2. Supporting documentation where applicable
  3. Structured self-assessment aligned to the SLL framework

Where LCRS review or validation is undertaken, it is conducted as a structured assessment process, not as a formal audit or assurance engagement.

4. Methodology Overview

The SLL methodology is based on a capability and maturity assessment model, focusing on how organisations integrate:

  1. Governance and leadership
  2. Risk and resilience
  3. Sustainability and environmental stewardship
  4. Social responsibility
  5. Innovation and knowledge

Assessments are conducted using defined indicators across these domains, supported by a structured scoring approach.

LCRS is committed to maintaining the integrity, consistency, and credibility of the SLL framework across all engagements.

5. Scoring & Classification

SLL uses a maturity-based classification system to reflect organisational capability.

  1. Organisations are assessed against defined criteria
  2. Scores are aggregated across assessment areas
  3. Outcomes are expressed as maturity levels, not rankings

Multiple organisations may achieve the same classification level.

SLL does not produce league tables or competitive rankings unless explicitly stated and agreed.

6. Use of Data

Data submitted through SLL is used solely for:

  1. Organisational assessment
  2. Insight development
  3. Benchmarking outputs

All benchmarking outputs are anonymised and aggregated, unless explicit consent is provided by the participating organisation.

LCRS does not disclose identifiable organisational data without consent and does not use SLL data for commercial resale.

7. Transparency & Consistency

LCRS is committed to:

  1. Applying the SLL methodology consistently across all participants
  2. Maintaining transparency in how assessments are conducted
  3. Providing clear explanations of scoring and outcomes

Where appropriate, participants may receive feedback to support improvement and capability development.

8. Limitations

SLL outputs:

  1. Are based on information provided at the time of assessment
  2. Reflect organisational capability, not performance outcomes
  3. Do not constitute assurance, audit, or certification

Organisations remain responsible for how insights and outputs are interpreted and applied.

9. Continuous Improvement

The SLL framework and methodology are subject to periodic review to ensure:

  1. Relevance to evolving governance, risk, and sustainability practices
  2. Alignment with emerging standards and expectations
  3. Continuous improvement of assessment quality
